Protective coatings: GraffitiguardTM,
Easy graffiti removal for silicate surfaces
Signo's GraffitiguardTM is a stain- and graffiti-resistant formula for coating porous silicate substrates (sandstone, brickwork, concrete, terracotta and clay). A protective layer less than 0.0001mm thick, bonds with inner pores of the substrate leaving a smooth, anti-stain, non-discolouring surface.
The coating is undetectable, UV-stable, chemically inert and extremely durable, having hydrophobic and oleophobic capabilities. It is unaffected by extremes of temperatures. Surfaces remain breathable.
GraffitiguardTM offer protection against repeated graffiti, chemical attack, including damage from acrylic paint, fat, grease and oil products; colour seepage into substrate and frost damage. They prevent efflorescence on cement substrates. Cleaning becomes much easier and less frequent- required 50-70% less often. Lifespan of the substrate is extended because of reduced cleaning cycles and prevention of chemical erosion.

Composition and manufacture
Both GraffitiguardTM is water-based, and contains silicon-dioxide molecules, whose surface energy is modified by anti-bonding molecules. On application, silicon-dioxide molecules from the coating and the substrate start to bond together releasing the anti-bonding molecules. These migrate to the surface creating a smooth, protective outer layer, changing the status of the substrate to low energy. This low-energy status is fundamental to the repellent qualities of treated surfaces.
Sitework
Applied by surface spraying onto deep-cleaned surfaces, GraffitiguardTM can be applied almost anywhere: on site, at manufacturing premises, or dedicated application centre. Product can be applied to new surfaces, during manufacture or installation, or on existing surfaces to prevent further deterioration. Hardening at 20ºC, the treatment requires no additional energy or UV-light during application.
Applications
Building facades, bridges and tunnels, passenger facilities, pre-cast concrete blocks, stonework, bricks and paving, stone panel floors and wall coverings. Various types of stonework including sandstone, terracotta, slate and roof tiles.
Cleaning and maintenance
Cleaning frequencies are reduced by prevention of ingrained soiling. Where the substrate is suitable, graffiti can be removed by a high-pressure cleaner, 50 to 60 bar, and water at 90°C. On more sensitive surfaces, a commercial-quality, paint stripping paste can be used, followed by a final wash-down with water.
